Amyloid plaques form in the entorhinal cortex of patients with Alzheimer’s disease and this region, which connects the neocortex and the hippocampus, plays a crucial part in memory. it has been suggested that plaques in this region represent the lytic remnants of degenerated, Abeta1–42-burdened pyramidal neurons, and that amyloid internalization depends on alpha7 nAChR mediated Ca2+ entry162.
